Tata Steel
For many years, Tata Steel has been conducting research into tribology at its research centre for steel applications. Following the emergence of thermal conversion techniques in the car industry, there was a desire to characterize friction at high temperatures. A Hot Friction Tester (HFT) had to be linked to an existing transit furnace that also heats plates for an industrial press.
Pro Control technically developed the concept devised by Tata Steel and took care of all construction and control activities. This HFT has become an important tool for research into tool wear and friction behaviour during thermal conversion. Tata Steel is very satisfied with this partnership and the result. There is now a testing device that is very functional and frequently used.
